Josh Gayou of Smokehouse Guitars created this 179-page guide back in 2010, and decided to give it away for free to the cigar box guitar community. In it, he covers some of the more advanced techniques involved in building a high-end solid-body 6-string electric guitar using a cigar box body.
Nice directions precise and very informative.
thanks for plans
You really want to stick with hardwoods for the neck.
Just glanced at the first few pages and WOW is all I can say. This is going to be my “GO TO FILE FOR ANYTHING CBG!!! You need to copyright and publish this in hardcover!
Hi guys, I am a babe in arms when it comes to cbg’s and building them. Would a close grain pine be ok for the neck?
Downloading will let you know as build progress.
Joshua, Holy cow my brother you have come a long way and what a beautiful book you have put together, congratulations. I see it was published in 2010 but I had never come across for some reason. I hope you self published it on Amazon, if not do it now. I am sure many would love to order a hardcopy for their shops. Would also do well on kindle…
I remember when you uploaded some of your first CBG build pictures to either Cigar Box Nation or Handmade Music Clubhouse, and I thought to myself, “who is this guy building nicer guitars than me!”
We were the only two at the time building solid body CBGs with inserts and/or encapsulation methods AND the only makers using high end electronics. Your book has inspired me to get back to it so thanks and good luck to you.
